None of us can be content with merely slowing or stopping the decline in unmarried fatherhood; we must mobilize every sector of society-civic, faith-based, business, education, media, entertainment, health, and others- to reverse it and strengthen marriage. It is imperative that we have a national dialogue about the steps we all must take to strengthen our nation’s families. Your movement lends a powerful voice to that conversation. As you point out, strong marriages are a vital component to building strong families and raising healthy, happy, well-educated children. Fighting together against the forces that undermine family values, and creating a national culture that nurtures and encourages marriage and good family life, must be at the heart of this great nation’s public policy. Today is our 38th wedding anniversary. We have raised 3 wonderful children with families of their own. Each of our children are making a contribution to society.
